How Does Weight Loss Supplement Work?

If you spend a decent amount of time on the internet, you must have come across advertisements for weight loss supplements that claim to magically make you thin without doing little or no hard work at all.

Now the question arises are they for real and if so then how do they work? In this article, we will try to answer these questions to satisfy your curious mind, so you finally know whether you should trust those magical pills.

Which Of Them Works?

There are many claims on the internet by various supplement brands and unfortunately, most of them are nothing but false claims. There is no evidence to back up their claims and most people have spent thousands of dollars just to get nothing in return or in some cases even damaging their health.

However, there is some good news. There are two types of weight loss supplements that actually work. They are Appetite Suppressants and Fat Blockers. The mechanism of action of these two types of weight loss supplements is interesting to know about.

Appetite Suppressants

The way appetite suppressants work is to dull your appetite for food. They do that by suppressing the neurotransmitter in our brains so we don’t feel hungry often like we use to. One of such appetite suppressants is Sibutramine. The appetite suppressants block the neurotransmitters like serotonin and norepinephrine which gives our body the sensation of hunger.

When these neurotransmitters are blocked you don’t feel hungry anymore and lose your appetite. The problem with these appetite suppressants is that they are not long term solutions. The body adjusts to the new condition within only 6 to 8 weeks, and the benefit of weight loss is not seen anymore.

Fat Blockers

Fat Blockers work differently than Appetite suppressants. The way they work is that they don’t let fats be divided into glycerol and fatty acids. Our cell membranes cannot absorb fats directly as they are too big to pass through our cell membranes. To break fats into glycerol and fatty acids the enzyme lipase is required.

Now, when you intake Fat blockers they bind with lipases and as a result, fats don’t get to bind with lipase and split into glycerol and fatty acids. Due to this the fat never gets absorbed by our body.

Now the question is does this method work? The good news is that they work pretty well. It has been observed that over 30 percent of the fats are not absorbed when people start taking fat blockers. However, there can be some unwanted side effects as the fats are stored inside our intestine because of this.

Other Weight Loss Supplements

Other than these two types of weight loss supplements, most of the others don’t show any good signs in our body. On the contrary, they do more harm than good. PhenQ is one of the weight loss supplements among them that works by burning the fats in our body and suppressing our appetite.

Conclusion

Now that you know the mechanism of how the weight loss supplement works, what weight loss supplement do you think would help you most to lose weight?
